Description: This observation shows a brown alga with a long, single, undivided blade that is ruffled or crinkled along the edges, giving it a distinctive wavy appearance. The color ranges from yellowish-brown to medium brown. The blade attaches to a smooth, flexible, cylindrical stipe, which in turn is anchored to the rock substrate by a claw-like, profusely branched holdfast. This observation shows a coarse, dark olive-brown to almost black brown alga. The thallus is stiff and much-branched, reaching up to 2 m (6.5 ft) in height. The branches are cylindrical to slightly flattened and arranged in an irregularly alternate pattern, with sharply pointed spines being a prominent feature. 4500' My first impression was that it was infected with bolete mold (*Hypomyces chrysospermus*) but at closer inspection, it appears to be just an odd shaped king bolete (*Boletus edulis*). Was very firm to the touch. Found several more *B. edulis* nearby
