This bug was on a stick I accidentally knocked into the water, and it couldn’t make it to dry land. I waded in and scooped it and put it on this sunny spot. It turns out it has a super bright white belly. I did not photograph it until it was settled, because being knocked into the water seemed like enough trouble. It had a bad day, but it only took about five minutes for it to compose itself and fly away.

Several days of hot record setting weather in Jefferson County. Co. Painted Ladies are in flight at the base of North Table Mountain. This butterfly was much larger than most of what I've seen here...in past two days. Migrating or overwintering?

Decided to take the blacklight over to Green Acres Memorial Park; it ended up being very windy and not much came to the sheet. I could see several bugs flying around but it was just too windy for them to settle. I did hear an Eastern screech-owl and was able to document a few interesting things.
